Living on the Edge - Alaska 2007. Living on the Edge is a geological field course at Union College, Schenectady New York, that aims to increase our understanding of the geological hazards at subduction zones and the way society mitigates those hazards. Living on the Edge - Alaska 2008. What we are all about. Living on the Edge is the field study of earthquakes, volcanoes, and other hazards where tectonic plates collide. Field studies focus on understanding the science behind natural hazards that lead to catastrophic events and subsequent loss of life.
